Gestalt Language Processing
What Is Gestalt Language Processing?
Gestalt Language Processing (GLP) is a way a child may learn and process language. Unlike traditional language development methods which build language step by step, GLPs learn language in chunks or “gestalts” such as phrases or sentences that they hear and repeat.
Our Treatment Approach
In order to support your child’s individual communication style, our therapists incorporate the following key principles of GLP treatment:
-
Child-led play: The therapist follows the child's lead and hones in on their interests, creating a natural and engaging environment for language learning.
-
Natural contexts: An option to receive therapy in everyday settings, such as the child's home or school, is provided to promote the use of the targeted language skills in everyday situations.
-
Echolalia as a tool: The therapist acknowledges the child’s echolalia making the child feel heard and understood and uses it as a starting point for communication and language expansion.
-
Building on strengths: Therapy focuses on the child's unique strengths and interests to motivate and engage them in the learning process.
