Hyunji Shin

Speech-Language Pathologist

Background: Hyunji is a Speech-Language Pathologist registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO). She received her Master of Health Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Toronto. Hyunji has practiced as a speech-language pathologist in South Korea, providing culturally-sensitive speech and language services to expatriate communities (adults and children of all ages), including the US military, international schools, and multilingual, multicultural families. Hyunji takes a family-centered, strength-based approach to support children's functional communication, using evidence-based practices to support their unique  communication, behaviour and social-emotional development. Hyunji enjoys partnering with caregivers to facilitate carryover and generalize learning in their daily lives.

 

Additional Training: Paediatric motor speech treatments including Kaufman K-SLP Methods, PROMPT Level 1, DTTC, and Speech Intelligibility Treatment (therapy program for school-aged children with dysarthria). Hanen® It Takes Two to Talk (family-centred therapy program for young children with communication delays), Lidcombe Program (family-centred behavioural treatment for children who stutter), Comprehensive Stuttering Program (intensive integrative approach to stuttering treatment for children, adolescents, adults), Meaningful Speech Gestalt Language Processing (framework to support language growth in children with echolalia)

 

Special Interests: Speech disorders that impact speech clarity (childhood apraxia of speech, motor speech delay, phonological disorders, etc), stuttering, parent coaching, early intervention, working with individuals who identify as neurodiverse (e.g.,Autism Spectrum Disorder), AAC, and bilingual interventions
